Independence Eve 2011
For the second year Denver celebrated Independence Day with a new event called "Independence Eve". The event has become a mainstay attraction event in the heart of downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park. "How can you go wrong with a free concert from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Fireworks, and a vibrant light show on the Denver City and County Building?" said Nate Webb Lighting designer and Co-Owner of Blazen Illuminations. Blazen Illuminations has provided the light show for both years and this year proved to be the best yet. With over 570 LED lights on the building and dozens of lights on the main stage Blazen produced a spectacle for the eyes at this year’s event. "It took a week to get the building ready for the big event," said Nate. "We have been programming for nearly two weeks to get the right looks for each song, late nights and early mornings are all worth it when you hear the crowds cheering." "The highlights of the show were the ‘Armed Forces Salute’ where we were able to light the building in the colors from each branch of the military including the Coast Guard." said Nate. "The finale of the show was amazing with the fireworks bursting over the building lit in vibrant red white and blue. There is really nothing this patriotic west of the Mississippi. It really makes you proud to be an American and thankful for the service of our military men and women." Blazen used Maxedia and a Maxxyz PC to produce the light show this year. Maxedia is an innovative technology that allows the lighting on the building to be controlled with video. "It creates large and amazing looks that allow us to present the flag and vibrant colorful looks in the lighting on the building." said Nate. This is the first time a display of this size has used this technology on a historical building and event this large. This year the show was broadcast live on CBS4 to viewers on TV and the Internet making it the premiere Independence day event in Colorado. The partnership from the media partners and sponsors the event was attended by an estimated 75,000+ in the park and thousands on TV and the Internet.
