Built in 1932, the City and County Building in Denver, Colorado is one of Denver’s most beautiful and historic buildings.  Conceived as part of Mayor Robert Speer's vision of a “Paris on the Plains,” the neoclassical travertine and granite structure has long hosted one of the most beautiful and striking holiday lighting displays in the entire country.  Blazen Illuminations, in a partnership with American Lighting, worked with the city and county of Denver to update the lighting for the entire building with energy efficient LEDs.

The Blazen Illuminations team created a master plan for placement of over 600 color-changing fixtures that will allow for year-round lighting and choreography.   Using our expertise in DMX control systems, Blazen Illuminations created a lighting and control system of massive scale, while still allowing for simple fine grain control of each lighting fixture.

Rather than being simply a static display of holiday lights, the City and County building will have the potential to be lit year round, with color changing fixtures that are pre-programmed to coincide with major city and national events.  For instance, the clock tower’s 120+ fixtures were set to a brilliant shade of pink during the month of October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In addition to the dynamic nature of the lighting, the new LED fixtures will greatly reduce the carbon footprint of the building’s lighting displays. The installation of dynamic, energy efficient lighting is a major step forward in the quality of displays available to the city of Denver.  While remaining reverent of the building’s history and significance, Blazen Illuminations has given the employees of the city and county of Denver to realize their imagination, using the building as their canvass.
